The Tri-State Telecommunications Conference, held July 29–31, 2025, in Sun Valley, Idaho, welcomed over 150 attendees, 43 vendors, 17 speakers, and 27 sponsors from across the telecommunications industry. This unique annual conference brings together member companies from Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming to network, engage in meaningful dialogue, and explore innovative technologies and solutions.
This year’s theme, "Think Different," encouraged attendees to challenge conventional thinking and embrace new perspectives, particularly in light of industry developments such as BEAD and other significant federal initiatives.
The conference began with enjoyable networking activities, including golf and trap shooting, providing a relaxed atmosphere for building connections.
Kicking things on on Wednesday was Lieutenant Governor Scott Bedke who shared personal anecdotes designed to inspire attendees to think differently. Following his address, Seth Ruhter, an economics professor from the College of Idaho, provided an economic update. A technology panel featuring industry experts Fayyaz Patwa (Nokia), Jack Breeding (Adtran), and Jeff Brown (Calix) continued the conversation. Following the tech panel was the federal panel, led by Mike Romano (NTCA), Derrick Owens (WTA – Advocates for Rural Broadband), and Grant Spellmeyer (ACA Connects). Christian Hansen from Moss Adams x Baker Tilly delivered insights into cybersecurity trends, recent breaches, and essential lessons learned. Ending the second day was Dr. Michele McFarlane who shared best practices for community-focused project planning and economic development.
A highlight of the conference was Wednesday’s keynote by Steve Brown, who captivated attendees with his forward-looking insights into artificial intelligence. Brown discussed AI's role in business, autonomous agents, and digital transformation, providing attendees with actionable strategies to navigate the evolving technology landscape.
The final day featured a broadband office panel with regional representatives Ramón Hobdey-Sánchez from Idaho, Rebecca Dilg from Utah, and Chad Bolling from Wyoming. The Public Utilities Commission panel, including Edward Lodge from Idaho and David Clark from Utah, provided valuable regulatory insights that concluded the conference.
Thank you to all attendees, speakers, sponsors, and vendors for contributing to the success of the 2025 Tri-State Telecommunications Conference. We look forward to seeing you again next year in Utah!
